FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Most couples tend to ask the same questions regarding the entertainment for their wedding day so we decided to have a page on our website with FAQ, yes those questions we get asked time & time again.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION BELOW ON PROVISIONALLY HOLDING DATES.
Can I provisionally hold a date? Due to the increase in demand for certain dates we have had to become very specific on details regarding holding dates provisionally and will give couples every chance to see us perform or sort out other details of their wedding before finalising booking.
1. Dates are NOT automatically classed as "provisionally booked" if you contact us by phone or email to find out that we are free on your wedding date, YOU MUST REQUEST that we hold a date provisionally for you.
2. When you request a date to be provisionally held we will tell you exactly how long we are holding that date, this will give you a chance to come hear us or sort out any other details that needs to be done before booking your entertainment. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU TAKE NOTE OF HOW LONG THE DATE IS PROVISIONALLY HELD AND YOU MUST CONTACT US before that particular time if you want to confirm the booking or if you would like to extend the time the date is provisionally held. If contacting us to confirm booking etc please remember we will not be able to return missed calls if caller ID is displayed as "Private Number".
3. The length of time that the date is provisionally held for can be extended, if for example you did not get to hear us, however on certain dates where demand is high it may not be possible to further hold the date.
Do you allow guests to sing at weddings? Yes, we do allow guests to sing at weddings and will provide backing for them although the final say on who is to be called to sing rests with the bride & groom but through experience we have found it is advisable to limit the number of guests called to sing.
How long do you play for? Normally 3 hours including 20/25 minute break while tea/coffee is been served.
Do you have a set playlist? Wavelength have a playlist for weddings and from time to time this does vary depending on any requests from the bride & groom or depending on the crowd. While it would not be possible to include all of our playlist in a wedding set, sometimes we may lean towards a certain direction, some weddings may be a lot of country, waltzes etc while another could be mostly 70's, 80's.
Do you use backing tracks? No, backing tracks are not used, everything is live.
Where can we see Wavelength? Most couples booking bands have to "gatecrash" another wedding, don't worry the couple whose wedding you go along to have probably done the same thing. It is best to see a band perform at a wedding and try to see the band for as long as period of time as possible. Also ask the band was it their general playlist you heard or was it altered specifically to the bride & grooms requests.
Do you have any recordings we can listen to? Yes Wavelength have recorded 1 full album. It is advisable to see the band live if at all possible as the album was recorded primarily for a US tour the band we did in March 2006 and for radio airplay with the result that many of the tracks on the album are not on our current wedding playlist and the overall music selection on the album does not fully portray the wide range of musical styles the band can offer. However both the album is available by e mailing cdsales@wavelengthpartyband.com. On our audio page there is a link which will take you to a web page where you can hear some tracks from our album. This is a relatively new page and due to requests we will be adding live audio samples and video footage in the coming months.
Do you cover all types of music? No, even though we have a comprehensive repertoire covering many decades & genres of music, if you require a jazz, swing or specific tribute style band then we can recommend other bands that solely provide that style of music.
Do you travel nationwide? Yes, we have no problem travelling to perform at weddings, functions in any part of the country and have indeed played at functions in England and the US.
For our first dance, can we have the song of our choice? Yes. Couples can chose a the song for their first dance from our playlist, we also have a list of songs on our wedding songs page which we have found to be the most popular choices and more recently couples tend to have their first song on CD or if given at least 4 weeks notice, Wavelength will learn that first song for you subject to suitability.
If speeches are delayed, do you play for less time than normal? Yes, this does happen, actually more often than not, and the answer is no we do not play less time and will try to do our regular show regardless of the time that we start. In some cases where speeches are delayed and where there is other entertainment booked eg dancers etc then in order to leave a reasonable amount of time other entertainment we may have to shorten our time but that would be totally beyond our control.
Do you provide a DJ service? Yes we can organise the disco for your wedding. There are a number of DJs around the country whom we work with depending on what you require. On our links page you will also find details of DJs that we work with and whom provide an efficient and professional DJ service.
Do the bride & groom have any input into type music/specific songs? Yes of course, because Wavelength cover many styles of music with an extensive playlist then we will try to include/exclude certain songs or musical styles. If there are specific songs to play/avoid this is no problem but we would hope that couples would also allow us to use our expertise to determine what will suit the crowd, so it is really a combination of our extertise and the bride/groom's input that determines the final playlist. Couples must remember that there may be songs/music styles they may not like but many of the guests may.
Do you play any Irish Dances? Yes, we can include the Siege Of Ennis, Stack Of Barley and Shoe The Donkey in our playlist but as we are not a dedicated ceili band we always do these dances in a light hearted fashion.
How long do you break for Tea/Coffee? 20 - 25 minutes would be the average break time.
What is the bands dress code? Wavelength always start their performance dressed in formal suits and depending on the show, the dress code will change during the later part of the evening. If there is a particular theme to the function then we will have the right attire to suit. If you have any preferences or opinions on dress code for your wedding please let us know.
How long is the band together? The band was formed in 1999.
Do I need to meet up with the band leader/manager? No not nesessarily, all correspondence can be done by phone/e-mail/fax/text, but if you require a personal meeting there is no problem. We will have all your wedding details obtained before the wedding day.
How long does it take you to set up? The set up time is 45 mins. from the time that we have access to the stage. You must bear in mind when the meal is finished, it will take hotel staff time to reorganise the function room, put stage in place etc. We normally arrive at the venue at 7:30/7:45pm and aim to start playing at 9:00pm. If we start anytime after this, it is beyond our control ie meal/speeches not finished, waiting for access to stage, waiting for the bridal party to be in place etc.
Do you always display a banner? No, in fact from time to time we are requested not to display any banner or advertising and often there is physically no room on the stage so the banner is not used all of the time.
Can you set up before the meal? Sometimes we are asked to set up before the meal so that there will be no gap between the meal and dancing and yes we can do this, but there is an extra charge as we would need to be at the hotel early in the afternoon. It will also depend on the hotel and layout of the function room i.e. do the hotel use the stage for the top table, is the function large enough to accommodate having band set up while meal is going on, does the hotel set up the stage after the meal etc. Actually most hotels either use the stage as top table or set up the stage after the meal is finished and many couples do not want band equipment as a background in their photos/video but if it is your request, yes we can set up before the meal.
